The University of Portsmouth asked us to redesign this enormous archive of British maps, census reports and travel writing. Due to time retraints we decided to work with the existing markup wherever possible and developed a complete styling overhaul using little more than CSS and Javascript.
The final design was based around a neutral colour scheme with strong contrasting tones and a clearer interface to let the visitor's attention focus on the fascinating content without distraction.
This complete redesign involved changing as little of the existing markup as possible, so the majority of changes were handled purely by the CSS styling layer.
